- What are the courses / programmes offered by SRM university? SRM University offers undergraduate and post graduate courses in engineering, architecture, management, medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, allied health etc. For more details:
- What is the medium of instruction? English.
- What is the tuition fee for the various courses conducted at your university?
- Other than the course fee and other fees what other fees needs to be paid? Other than course fee and other fees, you have to pay for hostel accommodation and mess charges which has been mentioned in the hostel fee schedule.
- Is there any provision for concession or scholarships? With limited seats allotted for NRI/ Foreign students, no concessions or scholarships is offered to students admitted under foreign/ NRI quota.
- Is there any management quota? No. We do not have any management quota. Only two quotas- general quota, admissions of which are based on the ranking obtained by the student in the entrance exam conducted by SRM University and the other quota is foreign/ NRI where admission are based on merit and as per the marks/grades obtained in the 10+2 or equivalent examination.
- Do you have a sponsored quota? Yes, other than MBBS, all the courses have a sponsored quota.
- Who can sponsor? Parents, parents' direct brothers/ sisters or candidates' direct brothers/ sisters having NRI status can sponsor.
- Can an NRI sponsored student pay the course /tuition fee in Indian rupees? No. Course/ tuition fee has to be paid in US Dollars only by the sponsor.
- What is the total number of seats for foreign/NRI quota? Generally 15% of the total seats is reserved for foreign/ NRI quota.
- What are the eligibility requirements for admission?
- When do I apply? Students can start applying from January 2010 onwards.
- How to apply and from where do I get the application? Click here to download the application. For application form and brochure to be posted to you, write to: pcoordinator@ir.srmuniv.ac.in, by giving your postal address. The application and the brochure will be sent to you by post.
- When is the last date to submit the application? May 31, 2010 is the last date to submit the application for MBBS course. For all other courses, applications are accepted till seats are filled under foreign/ NRI quota till the commencement of class in July / Aug.
- Once I apply what will happen? Once you send in your application along with the required documents, we will register it and an application number will be allotted to you. In this letter we will let you know as to when we will be offering the admission letters or if your application is incomplete, we will write to you.
- Do you have any agents through whom we can apply? No. We do not have any agents or middlemen for admissions. SRM University will not be responsible if students have applied through agents and for any consequent loss.
- Is there any entrance exam? No. There is no entrance exam. Admissions to the MBBS course is based on merit as per the grades/ marks obtained in physics, chemistry and biology in the 10+2 or equivalent examination. The results should be submitted by May 31, 2010 to be considered for merit. For all other courses, admission is based on first come basis provided student meets the eligibility requirements.
- Then how do candidates who have written the IB or the A Levels get admission to the MBBS course as their results are declared only in July/ August 2010? We do offer a few seats to candidates who have written the IB or the 'A' Levels based on their IB predicted results or 'AS' Level results.
- Do you offer conditional admissions to students who have written the 10+2 or equivalent examination? Yes. We do offer conditional admissions to all courses except MBBS. To be considered, candidate has to submit his/ her 11th grade mark sheet plus 12th grade pre-final/ pre-board results.
- Where is SRM? SRM is in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, around 1/2 hour drive from Chennai airport.
- How do I get to SRM? You can get to SRM by reaching Chennai. You can reach by car or local electric train.
- Can a foreign student study at SRM on Tourist Visa? No. A foreign student (citizen) can study at SRM only with a student visa. If the foreign citizen is of Indian origin, then such a candidate can apply and get a PIO (People of Indian Origin) Card or and OCI (Dual Citizenship). Candidates with PIO or OCI can study in India without a student visa.
- How do I apply for a student visa or a PIO or OCI?You can apply for a student visa, PIO or OCI with the nearest Indian Embassy or Consulate. You will have to apply based on the confirmed admission letter issued by SRM.
- When should I arrive at SRM, if accepted to any of the programs offered at SRM University? Students should arrive 2-3 days prior to the commencement of classes. You will be informed of the exact date in the letter of confirmed admission.
- What type of hostel accommodation do you provide to students?
- Can I move straight to the hostel room allotted to me on my arrival at SRM? Only after the student has completed the admission formalities as mentioned in the confirmed admission letter, will a student be permitted to move into the hostel. On arrival, students are advised to move into the hotels reserved by them.
- Do you have internet facilities at SRM campus? Yes, internet and Wi-Fi facilities are available.
- What medical facilities are available to students admitted? All students admitted will be covered by Medicare at its teaching hospitals in SRM. Consultation and bed charges are free.
- Food Indian food- vegetarian or non-vegetarian is served in the hostel mess. At SRM, there is a food court where a variety of food is served. There are excellent multi-cuisine restaurants available in Chennai.
- How is the climate there? From June to September- rains (heavy/ moderate), October to January- very mild winter or pleasant and February to May- hot and humid (up to 38 degree C).
